Activity 1 – Viewing the exhibition
1. Study and discuss all artworks in the exhibition.
2. Using the DIAJ critique template have students critique at least one of the artworks.
3. Research, read and discuss artist statements.
Activity 2 – Looking at Racial Conflict
1. Have a class discussion and brainstorm about racism.
a. Where have they seen or heard about racism?
b. What are the different perspectives? Is it a problem that can be solved or a serious issue that causes violence and hurt?
c. What colours and lines did the artists use to communicate their messages?
d. What imagery do the artists in the exhibition use to show racism?
2. Have each student write a personal reflection on racial conflict that explains their view on the topic.
